Strewth!
A correct grip on the butt & cheekweld is imperative for accurate shooting.

I've flown on these old Antonov 24's in Russia and Kazakhstan on many (too many!) occasions
They're still flying - in fact, UPS uses one for daily flights of parcels in and out of Aberdeen.
Too many stories to tell, but here are a few
The main operator in Kazakhstan is SCAT airlines (great name-eh)
One of their procedures is that only the pilot or copilot is allowed to open or close the rear passenger door. This leads to the rather worrying situation where the pilot and copilot are the last to board the aircrafy before take off and the first to leave after landing. In fact, rather than the usual sight of people jumping up as soon as the plane stops to get their hand luggage etc, on a SCAT flight no one moves until the pilot and copilot walk down the aisle saying "Dosvedanya" (goodbye) to everyone!
Summer in Kazakhstan is hot - often over 45 degrees centigrade and on one occasion the runway at the airport we were due to land at had softened with the heat. No problem for a SCAT pilot and his trusty AN-24 - don't land on the runway, land on the dirt track which runs alongside the runway!!
Last August we were due to fly on a SCAT AN-24 but a few minutes after starting the engines, the pilot shut down the port engine because it was overheating (air temperarutre that day was about 47 degrees). We waited for about 10 minutes and tried again, but with the same result.
After a 15 minute delay somebody appeared with a fire hose and hosed the port engine down with water for about 5 minutes.
The pilot then started the engine and away we went for a 2 hour flight without any problem.
They also have no restrictions on mobile phone use, simply because there are no electronics on these aircraft!
OK, I'm boring you now so I'll stop
Cheers
Bruce
