Good video Dave
The difference in light transmission through the scopes is very noticeable.
I'd love to see that test run again with an S Tac 2.5-17.5x56 against the S Tac 4-20x50 and an S Tac 3-16x42

Cheers

Wow, there's a considerable difference between them. Much more than the 56% bigger objective lens area.

Presumably they have just the 'right' coatings.

Toggling between 0:10 and 4:30 on the video shows the comparison up very well.

Sightron also seem to do a MOA ret version of the scope.

Thanks chaps, the difference was easier to see on the PC.

I'd like to see a comparison between em too but the 56 is too pricey for me given I rarely use the 17REM and the smaller lighter Varmint is fine for HMR use. If I'd had the dosh I'd have bought the 2.5 that got sold on here recently.

I wonder who would have those scopes to do a stress comparison Bruce?

The Hawk is discontinued, but it did sell for around £150, the S Tac sells for around £450
You get significantly better glass and coatings for that additional cost and the video proves it.

Cheers

Dave,
I have a 2.5-17.5x56 and a 3-16x42, and one of your collet type add ons so I could do that test, but I can't guarantee any video, just a verbal description of my findings

I guess it'd be about £250 these days if it were still being sold but it sort of queeries the theory that cheaper is generally best for NV.

If someone wants to send me a scope to compare I could do that for them - it doesn't have to get fitted to a rifle.

Verbal from you is going to hold water but you are welcome to have a go with my PV110 and cable that splits into the unique camera feed cabling if you fancy it Bruce.

Or if you have your own DVR you can make an AV in cable to suit any pin out with this:

And plug cabling as needed into this:
