New member looking at night ratting

Post by bradh » 15 Oct 2018, 18:54

Hello
I am looking at getting into the night vision hunting (ratting) and have no idea so I'm guessing a lot to learn
Any advice in what would make a great scope for ratting anywhere from 10-30 metres would be greatly appreciated and what to avoid

You don't need a traditional scope
Get one of these http://www.customriflescopes.com/shop.h ... y=15737046
Then get one of these and fit it to your rifle http://www.customriflescopes.com/shop.h ... y=15737046
Once you've done that, fit the addonight to the scopeless mount, zero the addonight and you're good to go.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply both of those links appear to be the same
So this unit just fits to the back of the existing scope?
This would mean I would need also a new scope (currently using a webley raider .22 that came with a very cheap non branded scope, and due to the different distances I would like several zero's to take the guess work out) any recommendations I'm also on a budget so I don't mind used equipment

Sorry, the second link should have been this http://www.customriflescopes.com/shop.h ... 5737046the
The scopeless mount fits onto the rail on top of the rifle and the addonight fits into the scopeless mount.
The addonight becomes your digital night vision scope
The addonight can generate a reticle which appears on the display. The position of the reticle can be adjusted so that it coincides with the point of impact with you bullets.
There are numbers associated with the position of the reticle on the screen, so making a note of the numbers at different zeroing distances will allow you to move the reticle to the correct zero for any given shooting distance.
The addonight has an built in IR illuminator that shows up the rats, so no external illuminator is needed

You can, if you wish, use the addonight fitted to the rear of a normal scope, but the scope needs to have certain features before you'll get a decent image from the addonight.
1. The scope must have some form of focus adjustment, either adjustable objective or side focus, and the focus needs to g down to less than 10m and preferably 5m for ratting
2. For short range ratting you'll want low magnification, not more than x2 or x3 because the addonight itself magnifies everything by at least x2

Frankly, you won't get a decent scope for less than £150 (even 2nd hand) whereas the Addonight scopeless mount only costs £35.

Cheers

Thanks for the detailed response that sounds ideal. I will contact them later to see if the scope can come shipped with the mount less software already installed for the Crosshair
