Nikon Monarch 4-16x50 sf

Post by stealth69 » 29 Jan 2015, 16:34

Looking for a scope for a new 223 ,I want a decent not over the top price scope so was drawn to this Nikon, it will be used with gen2+ add on night vision some times but also for day time/late evening shooting in the summer .side focus is there ,the eye piece area looks very uniform so add on should fit very well ,there is also a pro staff 7 that is coming out soon that looks similer to this .Anyone have any experience with these scopes for day or night vision. Cheers..

I used to use a Monarch E some years back and think they are a very underrated scope when it comes to quality, it was ok with a mono on the back but not the best by far mainly due to the lens coatings I think, the lenses had quite a tint to them under certain light conditions.
Whether this Monarch is the same I don't know but something to consider, it is in the same price bracket to the one I had so lenses might be similar.
Very good day scope but the choice of reticle seemed to be a bit lacking when I had mine.

I'm playing with that scope at the moment
I can get the cross hair in focus but not the object I'm looking at or visa vers with an E700 add its totally clear up to 150 yards plus while my Leupold VXIII 4.5 x 14 I cannot even make out what I'm looking even after loots of adjustment I can see better and further with just the camera.

Thanks for replies so far ,strange about the Leupold not having decent focus ,they have a good reputation for night vision add ons at least with tubed .

I've never got on with Leupold scopes when using add-ons but certainly Starlight have sung there praises in the past for the Archer, wonder if that's something to do with the Archers objective lens.
I tried my IOR the other night and first impressions is that it's crap with an add-on, will persevere in the hope I can improve those results but not holding my breath.

I have several Bushnell scopes and they ALL work well with NV.
Decent choice of reticles available too.

Good luck with whatever you go with ;)

Thanks Kevin spoke to my gunshop guy and they dont deal with Nikon any more but they carry Bushnell ,had one once on HMR and it was great but had to get rid because it had battery on rear end and could not get NV on but I have been looking at Bushnell legend ultra HD 3-9x50 or the more expensive Elite 6500 2-5- 16 x 50 ,both with side focus ,if these are good with NV then I'm sorted .Always like the Bushnells ,very clear crisp image .

I have elite and legend and cannot tell the difference; my wallet can, but I can't.

Genuinely, the Legend is superb. I'll send you a PM now.
