Fixed mag scopes question.

Post by mr_magicfingers » 23 Jan 2016, 17:44

Both my .22 and my .308 have fixed mag scopes, Pecar x4 on the .308 and pecan x6 on the .22. Do night vision rigs work with fixed mag scopes, I've only seen people referring to rigs on variable scopes. My air rifle has a mamba lite on it, which I could move to the .22 if necessary, but wouldn't work so well on the centerfire, which is what I'd use for foxing.

Fixed mag scopes work fine, the problem is that most fixed mag scopes don't have any parallax adjustment, and that is often need to get both reticle and target in focus over a range of shooting distances.

I've a fixed mag/fixed PX scope I'll soon be testing with a DIY add on.

Side PX is obviously the usual benchmark, but this scope (Tasco Euro Class 4x44) is lovely with a huge depth of field; everything in focus from 5 yards to infinity.

I'm hoping that'll mean it will work, but I'll post my findings when I have them....

I hope it works, but the problem is that IR focusses differently than visible light so that when it passes through the scope it may not come to a focus except when your target is at one specific range
A friend of mine has a Zeiss Duralyt non PX scope and he can only get targets at 80 yards to be in focus when he uses his Nite-Site addon.
Out with that distance, the target becomes more and more fuzzy

That's my concern too Bruce. I really like this scope on my .222 but if it won't work with the NV then I will consider changing it to something with side PX. The only other option is to just use the .222 with a lamp, but NV is so much sneakier for those clever Charlies.... ;)

I have a Liesenfeld 6x42 on the 17.
Couldn't get much clarity with add on, till I put a t67 with AS pill, it has totally transformed this out fit
I can shoot quite well to 150 yards, probably further but 17 has its limitations.

Another fixed mag scope, have just tried an Optima wide angle 4x40, with the add on and the t67 with AS the clarity is awesome.
