DIY Digital NV In-line Add-on Library

Postby Radagast » 17 Feb 2016, 12:36

This thread is a resource for those intending to build an in-line add-on.
Q: What is an In-line Add-on?
A: A clunky name for a digital night vision device that fits behind (add on) a day scope, and uses a Near Eye Display so the shooter appears to be looking through the scope (in-line).
Q) Can I buy one commercially?
A) Yes. But that's not the point of this thread.
Q) But I don't want to build one!
A) Sigh. Look up Ward-D Vision, Nitetek NT300, Starlight Arrow or Night Master Atom. Now go away.
Q) Why would I build one?
A) More compact than the usual digital add on using a TV screen on top of the gun. No screen glare highlighting your face. Interesting and cool thing to do for those into home electronics. Cheaper than a commercial unit. easier to keep a proper chin weld on the stock.
Q) So what do I need to build one?
A)Read the threads below.
Q) Where do I buy the parts?
A) Read the threads below.
Q) I have a different question?
A) If its not answered in the threads below, start a new thread in the DIY NV sub forum.

The Oriscape VF-2C is the best combination of high resolution and low price at this point in time.
The simplest solution for a first time builder is to buy the VF-2C display from UKNVF Trader Splatty that has had the components potted (embedded in resin) to prevent water entry and recoil damage.
In depth info on modding and installation of the VF-2C is in the following threads.

What is max range of the cl ranger?
Range of the dark night?
Both look perfect looking for 150yard nv inline add on

Hi, yes the DL Ranger's limitation at night I found was more to do with the torch that you use, if you only use a T20 then that's the limit,
If you use the other extreme like a laser IR torch, then your range is extended beyond what i would class as safe shooting at night.
The DL ranger has a 12x mag so that would be your ultimate limit to what size target you are shooting at.

The camera i use inside is the ej mini type one so quality is top end.
