high pitch noise from IR Pill board switching circuit

Postby Trackerman » 23 Jan 2018, 21:51

Lads,
I have noticed a high pitch noise from the IR Pill board, it's the 3 mode version and can take 8v (which is what I'm driving it at).

I reckon it's the step down oscillator circuit on the board doing it's stuff at a barely audible frequency... guessing 18 to 20 KHz.

Now I'm no fox... but I'b be fairly sure any fox (or dog) could hear it from a fair distance.

The sound is loudest at high power and weakest at low power, no surprises there since the switching circuit is using more amps at high power.

has anyone come across this and found a fix?

for example does a single mode Pill board make the noise?

Thanks

T

Ok, a bit more testing and found the LED driver board was not fully tightened into the Pill case.

After tightening up firmly the sound reduced to nothing, so that's sorted.

PS my 13 year old son could still hear it, very low but still he could hear it... Ah the advantages of youth!
