Post by 7775rich » 19 Feb 2018, 23:33

Hi

I want to add an ir torch/illuminator to the front of a project box and have it cut down and put battery inside box, just wondered best way to attach and if anybody offers a solution I can buy?

Screw a short section of picatinny rail to the box and then use a picatinny scope ring to suit your illuminator.
ANT Supplies has loads of cheap bits of picatinny rail https://www.ant-supplies.uk/rails-and-a ... rails.html and scope rings

OK, I've done this but it's a bit fiddly.
Drill a hole in your project box so that the tube of your illuminator just fits.
Fix a scope ring to the inside of the surface of the box so that when the illuminator tube goes through the hole it also passes through the hole in the scope ring.
Tighten the scope ring and the illuminator is held in place.
To fix the scope ring to the inside surface of the box I normally fit the illuminator through the hole in the case and through the scope ring and then tighten the scope ring. Use a clamp to hold everything in place and then drill 2 holes through the box and into the face of the lower half of the scope ring.
I then tap the new holes in the scope ring to M3.
Then, simply screw the scope ring onto the inside surface of the box.

Send me your torch with a mark where you want it cut, then i will screw cut the inside of the cut down torch body, then make up a boss which you bolt to your project box then just screw on the torch thread the wires through and Bobs you Uncle, it's easier than it sounds.

if your torch is a T20 then I have the solution...

This is a 3d printed mount for the rear cap.

This way you still use full torch, battery remains in side the torch and you need a pigtail switch to activate it... cut the switch cable and fit a standard switch...

And if it's a more modern torch like the T38, T50, T67 or T75 then this is the mount you need.

just use the front of the torch, no cutting needed.

Then wire direct to the PILL regulator board.

or make a dummy battery to connect to the positive spring. but be sure to make a good ground to the torch case for negative.
