There looks to be 5 pins as far as i can see, 3 pins together as you can see on the right of the component in the pic, and then one bigger one on each side, . You can see one in the pic, and there is a corresponding one on the other side. I have a feeling that the 2 big ones might be just mounting points, as the encoder would have to be mounted quite firmly to the board to cope with all the turning motion back and forth. Don't know if this helps any of you experts out there. Thanks

Stab in the dark.
Your photo is a bit blurred so difficult to compare, but either Farnell or RS Components are a good place to look.

Sorry chaps, keep submitting multiple posts, press the button, nothing seems to happen, so press it again.
Thanks, that farnell component looks remarkably similar. I'll put up another hopefully better picture, see what you think.

There appears to be plenty available but possibly not the correct ones, as said before you really need a number, or someone who's in the know.
More here, yep foreign.

With more, and better quality pictures it might be possible to get the exact component or a working equivalent.
Alternatively, if you want to send me the scope I'll try and fix it
No fix - no fee

Cheers

Hi, here are some more pics which hopefully are better
The encoder has 5 pins plus the two which i think are mounting points. Hope this makes it a bit easier. Thanks for the offer bruce, might take you up on it if i am still struggling!
