Delta or Athlon with Add ons???

Postby Cottis » 11 Oct 2017, 10:06

I am in the market for a new scope which will be used for both rabbit/fox shooting and also target shooting where I need more magnification than my current max of 16 on this particular rifle.

I want a minimum of 24 mag but 30 would be good.

Trouble is, it has to work with a Wardy add on.

Lower end price wise, Athlon seem to do some higher mag scopes in the 300-400 range which is attractive price wise and I know they are made by Ex Bushnell guys, so every chance they will be fine. I have read some good reviews, along with some questionable ones. A little higher up the price range, Delta do a Titanium 4.5-30x50 scope for around 700quid that looks pretty good and about what I need. Their newer offerings have particularly good glass evidently but this is the more standard lenses I think, so was hoping it would work ok with NV. Lots of money to spend if it doesn't work though. I believe they are made in the same factory in Japan as the Bushnell's

Does anyone have an hands on experience with either Athlon or Delta with Digi NV Add on and if so, what model exactly pls.

Thanks

Don't have either of those, but i do have a Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5 - 30 x 50 and it works pretty well with a E700 based add on , so i would think it will work with the Ward because it has the same Camera.

Never tried either of them - and never heard of anyone else using them. Given you are considering a £700 ish scope you might like to consider upping your budget for the following.

Sightron S-TAC 8-32x56 are reputed to be great glass for daylight and are also great with the Wardy.

There's a new Delta Optical 5-50x56 due out very soon - details (but no stock) on the Optics warehouse website
There's also a new Delta optical 4.5-30 x56 first focal plane just out
Both scopes are near £1400 though.

Cheers

I have Delta Titanium 2.5 -15 x 56 and Sightron Stac 3 - 16 x 42 and Bushnell 6500 2.5 - 16 x 50 as well as Wardy 800.(Big headed bugger) Out of them all, Delta is by far the best with my brill E700 add on. Can't seem to get on with the Wardy at the moment.
It's a shame you're not closer

Excellent, thanks for that. I have heard good things about the Delta's, in particular the later HD offerings but I think I will go for the 4.5-30 and see how it goes. Not many scopes that offer such good low range focus, decent Japanese lenses, proven mechanics from the same factory as other decent scopes and a good reticule.

I would have gone for a Viper but I have a Vortex, which while really good just will not work with Digi NV
