which scope to buy

Post by lanerboy » 10 Feb 2018, 14:45

Hi All

I am after a scope for my 22lr I would like something like 4-16 x 50 with adjustable parallex I had a hawke on my last rimfire with adjustable parallex but I cant remember the model but I was very happy with it. What would you buy am looking at spending sub £150 on a decent 2nd hand scope.

Also what do you think of the quality difference between Hawke and Nikko Sterling I don't know which is best its just my local gun shop sell these brands if I cannot find a decent conditioned 2nd hand unit.

Also would be looking at fitting a nv add on set up to it on occasions for night ratting sessions.

Cheers

If ratting is on the agenda I'd have one that starts at 3 mag rather than 4 if you can, especially if only a few feet away for a wider field of view. You'll not be needing more than 9 mag for bunny bashing so a 3-9 would be better than a 4-12 in my opinion.

Hawke and MTC both give good results - as do Nicco Sterling apparently but I've not personally used one.

6 starting mag is way too high even for occasional ratting

I don't think they have parallax? See where the focus is when the NV is fitted before replacing it - it'll likely focus closer wi Infra Red light.

Contact fox firearms, look at their site ... they do 4x16x50 I think for around £100,or less and for the money they are brilliant.... folk using them for long range gongs & they dial well ... lot of scope for money ... & side paralex too
