Hi, did you ever work out the voltage for the viewfinder. I applied 5v and is just sit there with a little red indicator lit

We're your wiring connections correct. If I remember camera my CRT worked fine.

Paid £40 for the camera just for the CRT. Are you sure you wired it right before posting pictures. Hope i have not just burned up £40 :thumbdown:

Had the view finder for nowt, gave up on it after a bit and binned it :wave:

Ok in a nutshell how to find + - leads for CRT

1) live connection - look for capacitor +, square ones have a silver end. Google capacitors to identify your type. These are normally very close to connection block.
2) identify other side of capacitor for your negative.
3) connect your video neg and power neg to this point
4)unless video feed live, screen will be blank
5) touch live video feed to other cables until it works
6) mine powered up on a T20 battery. Don't over power, you may blow it.

Just bought a canon v50 hi 8 camcorder from the bay......hoping that the viewfinder will be suitable. Anyone used one?

As per the picture, you attached, the camera does not have CRT viewfinder, but LCD one. So I'm not sure your experiment will be successful.
