Shellac sticks to the oil and is like a hard varnish, but can be applied like water, but you have to be fast and do it sparingly as it dries real fast.

So, there is oil penetrated within the timber and the shellac works as a hard undercoat for the clear lacquer aerosol I am using.

So there is way more protection than just the laquer.

Also, the oil and shellac have really added depth to the laminate, and darkened the tones, which is what I wanted.

It has now had 3 super fine coats of lacquer on too and is really starting to look nice.

Thanks for that

It's just that I've a Boyds stock on the way and I believe it's oiled, but I reckon it will be done 'just enough'.

Cheers.

Yeah, more than likely as a decent finish takes some time.

I am on my last coat of lacquer now.
BTW, the lacquer I am using isn't an auto paint, it is especially for timber.

This is the one I am using. This is much finer than auto paint, so if you want a really deep looking finish, you will need auto paint, possibly a couple of coats over the top.

I can see from this, that if I wish to touch any knocks or scratches up, it should be easy enough.
