hd50s vs helion xq38f

Post by whitehackle » 24 Oct 2017, 20:18

I am a game keeper and have had the use of a hd50s for 2 years, now I have lost the use of this, but can not go back to using a lamp.

All of the thermals are out of my price range really but I have come to terms with paying for a helion xq38f.

How dose the new helion 38 compare to the old hd50s? am I going to be very disappointed?

Thanks

Hi Whitehackle.
I have the xq38f, other than using the old 38s? its the only one ive used/looked through so haven't had a large comparison.
I dont think you would be disappointed with the eq38f, it certainly does pick up them heat source's at distance, a lot of time's you can also make out what it is by the way it walks, but not always, for me though it lets you know that there is say a fox there, and you can then confirm with a top quality n/v.
Sunday night i was doing some calling with the foxpro, was spotting the fields with the eq38f, i saw an heat source moving in my direction at what was a genuine 700+ yds, i suspected it was a fox so walked down field 100 yds to meet it, it was a fox and yes i did shoot it.

I'm not sure choose how much you spend on thermal it will alway's allow you to id exactly, i certainly wouldn't trust one as a rifle scope choose what anyone one else say's.

Mini magnum on here will probably do the best price on one of these's, that's who i bought mine off.

I haven't heard anyone knocking the xq38f for the money, and IMO no one will shoot any more foxes by spending any more money.

You really need to look through one and re adjust it to your personal eye settings ie contrast 20, brightness around 7 ect, or buy one mail order try it, and return it if your not happy, just cost you the return postage.

In terms of detection range, the Helion XQ38F is slightly better than the old HD50s.
The XQ38F has a slightly narrower field of view and wee bit more magnification.

Yes the xq38f is clearer than the hd50. I personally would go for the xq50 helion
