Short Thermal Clip - Barn Owl Hunting

Post by AnthonyR » 01 Feb 2018, 21:50

Shot this last week with my Helion, quite lucky to get it on film I think.

See this Barn Owl a lot when I am out ratting and it always seems to stare me telling me to leave his bloody quarry alone.

Awesome footage, I take my thermal everywhere with me now as its amazing what we miss at night. Though a week ago whilst out around the golf courses I thought I came across a human body, legged it up to the heat source with phone ready in hand to dial 999 to find out it was ash from a previous fire still glowing.

I shot a rat with my 35-3 on my daystate then watched a barn owl swoop down, pick up said rat and fly off with it. Pretty special I thought!

They do have there down side. I spent an hour yesterday evening stalking into what I hoped might be a Roe Buck lied up behind a pile of brash, only for it to be an active wood ant colony

I forgot to add that the upside was when I packed in and turned around for home the Helion picked up a small heat signature that I thought was a rabbit. Turned out to be a new Roe kid, see my pic on the SD, under Roe kids.
