Ward D Vision 800 - Further improvements

Postby cliveward » 16 Mar 2017, 17:25

Hi All,

I've been a bit quiet recently on 'internetland' and will be for a little while yet. Aside from being away on business recently and then contracting 'consumprion' (but is actually just a cold according to the War Dept.), things are afoot again with improving the WDV.

We are changing from a moulded housing to a CNC machined housing. This will make the unit stronger and more precise.

The downside is that the original CAD files are for an 'additive' process and they have to be completely redrawn for the new 'subtractive' process which has been a bit of a mission. The good news is that while I was at it, I though I might as well make the WDV 'perfect'. I've redesigned the DSA and clamping arrangement so that the clamp now doesn't foul the bolt on certain rifle and day scope height combinations and can be moved to any position.

Unfortunately we thought we had enough moulded housings to see us through until this was done, but what we have in stock aren't of the quality we need for production so it's been a concerted effort to get this done!.

The 3D design is almost complete, then next week will be a few days with the CNC lot going through the program and making sure it will be able to be made efficiently. Then they will need some time to fit the job in, set it up and then crack on with churning them out and then off to be bead blasted.

Cheers

Bead blasted.....does that mean a metal housing?

when asking for advice, please include what n.v device and/or illumination you already have (if any) and what rifles you intend to use them on...cheers

We had explored blasted and then anodised aluminium but the weight premium is 180g for that material.

It is 90% likely that the new housing will be Delrin which is then bead blasted to remove any machining marks and provide a flat finish.

Hi All,

Steam coming out of myself and the 3D modelling software has resulted in this:

The clamp can be put in any position and the thumb wheel either side of it. 8-)

Off to the CNC boys and girls now.

Hi Rod,

Yes. Everything from the 700 series will be upgradeable to this.
