Right, got the Xq30v last week and I have taken it out a good few times in the interim including on foot solo and as part of a trio of foxers. Long story short, it is fantastic for detection and good for identification. So much so, that two of the others I was with placed orders the following day to get one.

We used it not only to identify foxes which were then lamped for the shot and then the following pick up. We also used it to identify rabbits for longer range 17hmr shots and then also the pick up which is very useful in a large field.

I noticed that it is sufficiently detailed to identify mice on fields up to 50 yards away as heat spots, the point of initial impact after a fox which ran and died after 30 yards.

Will you identify if a fox is a fox and not a very big cat at 80 yards, no not really initially. However after a few uses you do get used to what the screen represents very quickly. The auto calibrate function is very useful when scanning from fields to woodland as backgrounds. The varying colour palates are ok but fluff in my opinion. The inbuilt ranging function is useful when working out a rough guestimate before say deciding to open up a lamp but I wouldn't be using it for HFT any time soon.

Is it a game changer? For the vast majority of people yes, with bells on. It saves a huge amount of time, is very portable and robust for what it is. There are more expensive units with WiFi and other bits and bobs up to specific thermal scopes that calculate range and adjust cross-hairs for you! But they are the preserve of the very wealthy or professionals who need that level of certainty and sophistication.

For me who goes out once or twice a week after rabbits, foxes etc it is perfect and performs way beyond what I expected. Last thing to mention and this is by no way a comprehensive review (there are loads online), the testament to its impact was that a member of our party who is in his late 40's who has been shooting since he was 18 immediately ordered one the following day, when from 500 yards the thermal identified two foxes that IR Digi-nightvision and Lamps missed.

In my opinion, cracking bit of kit.

Could not agree more with you.It does the basics very well and I for one would not be looking to spend double on the more sophisticated versions.Sure they could make it even cheaper by leaving out the various colour options- need no more than black or white which is the one I select every time.As you say the more you use it the better the experience.Richard.
