Re: Wanted cylinder
just out of interest JDK, when you say"out of test" what does that mean ? is it a safety thing ? what would happen if you went to a shop for a fill and it was out of test ?
asking as i am considering getting one for my PCP but know nothing about them really
cheers

Re: Wanted cylinder
The high pressure air bottles used to fill the cylinder on a pcp must be safety tested every 5 years because, in law they are regarded as "pressure vessels"
If you take an out of test bottle for a fill, they will definitely not fill it and may actually keep the bottle to prevent you from being in possession of a pressure vessel that does not have a current safety test.
Bottles can be re-tested and get another 5 years, but buying a used bottle always brings the risk that it may fail the test and you'll have thrown away your money for nothing.
My best advice is to buy a new bottle and get 5 years without having to worry about it.
Cheers

Re: Wanted cylinder
Out of test air bottles.
They wont fill it if its out of test ------too dangerous
You can have the bottle re tested, because the air used for re filling is "DRY" i am told rust isnt the problem, if they fail it usually the internal thread in the neck of the bottle ---- if your bottle FAILS the test they wont give you it back, it has to go for scrap, they will tell you this at the start.
At Robinhood water sports where i bought mine, they close check the internal threading on all their new bottles, if they don't come up to their standards they send them back, think my bottle has been through its second re test, no problems.
You are taking a chance buying a s/h out of test bottle, chances are it will go through the test, but it is scrap if it fails, so the price you pay for one has to reflect this, as "Bruce" says you are best off buying new ---oh and it want to be a bottle for air rile use, NOT DIVING as if it has the WRONG type of valve you only get 3 years before re test NOT 5.
