night vision on atv

Post by jclc43837 » 01 Jan 2018, 06:03

has anyone made a set up for a atv or a utv. I was thinking about putting a camera on the dash of my utv and running ir lights with a drop down dvd player style to view what im seeing so I could run in total darkness.

Hiya, If that vehicle has a windscreen you'd need to have the illuminator on the outside so the light doesnt reflect back to the camera. Just a thought though.. most ATV's I know are noisy two strokes so not much point trying to be covert, I'm guessing yours is a nice quiet petrol job?

Something like this any good to you?

im wondering if the 12mm lens would work for this application or would it be better to use a 35 or a 55mm lens. im not looking to see far just looking to be able to drive with no lights.

As its only about seeing where you are going - rather than spotting quarry then a 12, 16 or 25mm regular board lens will be very good. This is what you can expect to view with a 16 or 25mm board lens:
