Shorter neck and M12 lens on newest E700's

Postby some bloke » 09 Jan 2018, 02:24

I just fitted a small batch of new E700's... Entering geek mode... :geek:

They have shorter necks and shorter M12 lenses - which is great news for anyone using any of my E700 C mount spotter adaptors because the camera necks will no longer need to be cropped back.

The new shorter lens has a smaller 'hole' through it - could you advise what F-stop they are now please - and what the older ones were too?

Is there anything else that has changed about our favorite camera?

As far as we can tell, there's been no change on the E700s. We've got some old stock out to compare to current stock and they're exactly the same!

We're trying to do some research into what's happened, Stu from our sales team has emailed you directly with some photos and a couple of questions. We'll get to the bottom of this!

Hi Joe, I can't find any images with Stu's email but here is one of the new type with its lens next to an old one.

I have to say that I personally prefer the newer type if there is no difference in the lens F stop, just because it suits my E700~C mount spotter adaptors better.

The shorter footprint may also suit mirror type builds better too so its worth getting to the botton of it from our point of view - perhaps someone who uses mirrors could comment here.

We don't use the standard housing or lens at all. ;)

Cheers

Ah - mystery solved with an email from Stu at SURE24 - its all in the small print, did I mention my bad eyes?

I'd noticed them for sale with a special one day ebay discount and dipped in for a few... without noticing the 12mm lens default drop down bar option instead of my usual 16mm lens purchases. DOH!

I think I'll be ordering more of the 12mm variants now if I can find them on SURE24 site - and if any members are buying one for a spotter the shorter neck (E700PUB-12 ir removed?) is the way to go: You won't be using the 12mm lens but the shorter neck is easier to acheive the correct back focal length for a spotter build.

Thanks Joe - is that with the IR removed?
