But shooting deer at night is OK?
In the UK we have something called a "general licence" which automatically applies to every shooter, and which lists the animals which may legally be shot. In general these are pest species which cause damage to crops or which have very high populations.
The birds shot in the video are from a family of bird species known as corvids. The most common corvids in the UK are rooks, carrion crows and hooded crows and it looks like the birds being shot are probably young rooks.
Each year, in early to mid May, when the young rooks have hatched but are not strong enough to fly very far, we shoot them in the branches of the trees beside their nests. On a typical outing we may shoot more than 100.
