Jirka, is spot on. Around 5v and the ones I have from my previous posts do not have any brightness adjustments. I find that if you put some lighting gel in the removable eyepiece it's not too bad. I used 3 green pieces and it is much better on the eyes, definitely an improvement over a screen /monitor.

I'm a bit confused to be honest. ... I currently have a home brew add on and love it. I'd like to upgrade and add a camcorder near eye jobby...

Will SONY CAMCORDER MODEL NUMBER CCD-F550E be any good for viewfinder jobby does anyone know please?

Many thanks

Bazza.

thought we needed a thread to help out with wiring for camcorder viewfinders

so the two model I have used are both old 8mm camcorders, the Sanyo VM-D66P and the Olympus VX42

they are in fact the same camcorder, just branded under different names ;)

the viewfinder is removed by simply undoing two screws and unplugging,

the wires as you look at the plug shown in the picture are, from left to right..........left. +5v....middle 0v (earth)....right AV.1v

hope this helps

Hi Jock,

I'm after a bit of advice. I'm using the same view finder which when connected to a board camera, the view finder comes on but no picture. Now this is where I'm getting stuck, if I then wire in a monitor the monitor and view finder both work fine but as soon as I remove the monitor AV the view finder goes blank it's as if the view finder is not getting an AV signal from the board camera but does when connected to the monitor.

I hope this makes sense?
Any help will be very much appreciated.

Cheers

watcha Bud

welcome aboard

Have you connected the negative wires together, from the battery, board camera and viewfinder?

Thank you for the reply.

All negs are connected. It's as if the board camera is not sending an AV signal, with the view finder all connected the view finder screen is on but no picture but with the view finder still connected I then connect the 5" monitor screen to the 5v + 0v and AV everything works fine but as soon as I remove the 5" monitor AV the view finder screen goes blank agian.

I'll post some pics this evening to show what I've done.

Cheers

I hope this helps explain things a little better (please excuse the dodgy paint drawing)!

This one

shows how it's wired with just the viewfinder (viewfinder comes one but no picture).

And this one

shows how it's wired with the viewfinder and monitor (viewfinder and monitor both come on with picture received from camera).

I've also wired it with the camera 0v straight back to the battery but this gives same results above.

sounds like you've got a dodgy connection with the AV

have you cut and soldered the wires or just using the plug in AV connectors?

I've cut all the plugs off and have twisted them together until everything works then I was going to solder them. I've also tried it with a different camera and got the same result.

Have you checked you're getting 5v from the regulator?
