Aerobatics
Did anybody see that spitfire (i think) doing loop the loops and other highly entertaining tricks over maidstone earlier this evening ?

Not there mate, but used to see one regular as it was based a couple of minutes up the road. That was until it caught fire, thing they are rebuilding it now.
Re: Aerobatics
Not able to see that far, but did have a fantastic display a couple of weeks ago by two Typhoons having a dogfight overhead.
After burners on all the time and they were going for it, lasted quite a few minutes and just couldn't take my eyes off them, the noise was incredible, even the Mrs was watching in amazement.
Apparently about one thousand miserable buggers complained about the din overhead, I'd quite happily suffer the noise to see that again.
Spitfires put a lump in my throat though, I wish I knew why.

Yep. Great come back.
About a decade ago I was working on a roof in Sydney when a Spitfire started circling an old church up the road at low altitude, absolutely exhilarating to watch. Then a flight of F18s screamed in. One went vertical over the church and punched up through the clouds under full after burner. That was a downer. Missing man formation. I learned that night that a WWII Ace had died and they sent him off in style.

Don't get people complaining, great to watch training excercises when they come your way. When we lived in Pencaitland in East Lothian we used to get tornado low fly practices past our side of the village every other week. You felt you could almost reach out the upstairs window and touch them they felt that close pilot clearly visible as they sped past. Best one was one summer morning about 5am a tornado went past woke the whole family up then another. Then it was like apocolyspe now 5 chinoks lead man hanging out the door overhead heading for their landing point somewhere in the fields up the road. What a racket bloody great. The other nice one i saw was on my ex wifes uncles land he had a house in the 80s that had a lake in East Lothian, Pressmennan Lake, and my brother an law and i went out one evening to see if there was any duck flighting off. What we got was a harrier on a training excercise lifting off. We knew they practiced there but had never seen one. It must have come in low over the water and then as it rose up from stationary above the trees in front of us the pilot just looked at us lifted the nose then took off. Christ knows how that plane could do that but god it looked mean close up. Pilot was probably wondering what those two tits with the shotties were doing gob open staring at him.
