The new project. I know there's a few Land Rover folk on here so this may be of interest.
Plan A, Take a 3.9 Disco, remove body, stretch chassis to app 115" wb, move engine and gearbox back almost two and a half feet. This bits almost done.
Next step.
3 link front suspension same as rear but using rose joints (no binding), swap rear links for rose joints, (for the same reason), try and alter steering box position so column is vertical, build truck cab and full cage, build rear flat bed body and bonnet for the bit of engine that's not covered by rear of cab.
Should end up with what the 101 should have been, a coiled forward control. We want it as a mini truck trialer.
Plan B, later on. Fit Mog axles, portal with lockers
All sounds so simple doesn't it, let's hope it goes to plan

Whoah, that's ambitious!
Scares me just having to check the oil on mine
In regard to Landies, I've now had six. Had a Rangie with a 3.9 Perkins (the engine was a starter motor for a massive generator at an aluminium smelter) and now got a Disco commercial. Love or hate 'em.

Got a 90 and wouldnt recomend one to anybody but I love it and it does us proud

The biggest problem with Land Rovers is they get in your blood, they're like a disease that once caught never goes
I tried a Toyota once but I got better and went back to LR

my first car was 2 landrovers lol...a s2a 6cyl one ton and a 1966 swb petrol, which i'v still got today. i'v had 90's 110's and tomcats in between
exciting project mate. i'v seen a coil sprung 101 before. but never as long a wheelbase
how did you arrive at 115 inches?

Halfway between a Disco and a 130 Hicap, and we could use a standard rear prop. Just the one prop to make now for the front, done them before so shouldn't be too hard although it's going to be a long one. Unsure whether to use a two piece and centre bearing or not at the moment, it's going to be a suck it and see job I think as it has to clear engine etc and the front axle should have quite a bit of travel now.sunndog wrote:full bore landy man here, i'd never have anything else....well other than bikes

how did you arrive at 115 inches?
Need to source an economical angle drive for the steering column to box connection (column will be vertical (ish) now), so if anyone knows of a source any info would be appreciated.

My brother used to race land rovers (he was a nutter behined the wheel ) he could do any thing with them this looks like a big job hope you get it compleated .
would be nice to see the finished job good look hope it does the job you want it for .

I messed with the racing but in all honesty I was a modified trials man for years, one of those they used to call "the happy bunch of nutters up the corner of the site".
Trials gives a lot of satisfaction, it looks as though you're just flooring the thing but in fact it's intense concentration and you're "feeling" for every bump and dip on the ground and adjusting power and steering accordingly. A great feeling when you clean a section no-one else has.

what sort of cab are you goin for on it, 2B style or 101?
