I must admit to having heard these stories before, but, does anyone have a link to an article? I'm not doubting anyone's integrity or that they believe what they've heard, but I have never seen anything in print.

Are we sure these tales of woe are not just urban myths?

And how much do these people get paid? If anybody knows off the top of their head, save me looking it up?

Not being a member of any of them for a lot of years. I can not tell you exactly how much.
At the end of the year you would get a copy of the annual finances, incoming and outgoings. Then there was a little trickle at the end of it all that went to a charity. They probably spent more on biscuits through out the year.

i personally was let down in a big way by basc after several years of membership ,the farmer on my shoot asked me to watch out for a persistant poacher which i did, to cut a long story short ,i escorted him off the estate & that was that , about 6 months later a body was found dumped there & the police asked who had shooting rights & told them i have had them for 17 years ,in the meantime as soon it the news broke about the murder the said poacher rang the police & told them i put a gun to his head & threatened to blow it off saying i had a 5 shot automatic pointed at him ,(i didnt even own 1 ) anyhow i went to the station to verify my permission & was told to bring my guns in for forensic tests ? which i did & instantly was told they was being confiscated & my liscence revoked .. time to ring good old basc , mr innocent hung & dried by a poachers words (me) ,i was passed all around basc george wallace i think at the time never answered his phone or was allways unobtainable neither was anyone else at basc willing to help . after 2 years of writing letters & countless phone calls (by myself ) i finally got my liscence & guns back & the 2 detectives who confiscated them was hauled up in front of thier superiors ,before you ask i couldnt afford a solicitor im a country boy not well up on that sort of thing , but that was 2 years of no shooting lots of sleepless nights & stress all due to a liar , thats why i dont have time for basc

Fair do's, there's no arguing with your side of it. I wonder if BASC would care to put their version up, they probably take a peek on here (they do on BBS).
That's one story so far, are there any more?

That was a pretty crap time for you and I'm sorry to hear it. I can completely understand your point of view. The thing is would any other organisation be any better? Like most companies, be it that they support shooters or supply your broadband. Most are good at taking your money and as soon as something goes wrong then you end up banging your head against a wall. I will never ever buy internet phone and tv services from a certain company after getting really bad service from them. So understand completely.
Is there a market for as well as offering insurance also offering legal backup from shooting solicitors but like you get with your car, although when
I had to use them I had to fight tooth and nail with the stupid bint allocated to me.

i think the same can be said for nearly all insurance companies they really are a fraudulant crowd ,our fireplace set on fire the firemen came & wrecked the front room doing more damage than any fire god bless them . it took over a year to get any recompence of the insurance ,at 1 stage my wife was crying after being accused of all sorts of things by the woman in the claims department ,a really horrible foul person , when you think like i ,i have paid house insurance for 45 years & tried to make 1 claim ,i dont think i will bother anymore ,, back to my first post ,i am now with country cover, ? take a look on google see what you think ..good or bad ,,cheers pete

I went with SACS with another forum, insurance cover just as good as BASC, but their legal cover sounds a lot better than BASC.

If 6 of you are needing insurance, ring up SACS, tell them you want to organise club membership, instead of £35 a go it will be £25! They do all the organizing, all you have to do is ring and pay! £10,000,000 third party cover, £100,000 legal expenses including help if you have SGC or FAC problems!
