Night shooting
Re: Night shooting
Hello Bob57
In the seventies there were three sets of lights on the main road mate. Not that it matters.
I still haven't decided on what NV to buy 007 or 008. No hurry at minute as there are no 008 about So have plenty of time to weigh up the pro's and con's of dedicated or add on. Quick release rings and move the 008 between the two rifles maybe.
Only I can make the decision but thanks for your and every ones input.

Re: Night shooting
NV008 uses it's own picatinny/weaver style mount. I say "style" because there's been problems with it. Kevgun is in the process of making better mount with built-in adjustability (to get the reticle centered). Anyway you need picatinny/weaver rail on each rifle you're going to mount it, or go custom (still same mounting interface on each rifle).

Thanks for the info, I see Bruce uses a good set up for the same job with his Pard008 using two single weaver rail adaptors. I have been on the site where he gets them but they are closed at this time due to the virus. These look ideal to me.
Chas, thanks for reply a while back, I have just been re-reading all the advice I have been given on here and realised I hadn't thanked you. Better late then never.
Another quick question to those who know, ref Pard007. Would the Hawke 4-16 x 44 SF be ok. I could then fit that to my 22lr giving a lower profile and put my 3-9 x 50 AO hawke on my 222.
As you can see I still haven't come to a decision. It is definitely going to be a Pard but the 008 is like rocking horse poop at the minute unless you lads know better?
Thanks again

Re: Night shooting
Blackwood Outdoors have a shipment of 008s coming in.
These will be the latest version with the improved display.
It will also have compass heading, plus pitch and cant indicators (for what they're worth).
Cheers

Thanks Bruce, will check out the website.
Much appreciated

Re: Night shooting
Phoenix (Bruce) and all you lads in the know, Have any of you come across the Lixada Shimmer night vision scope. I would be interested in what you think. The only Pard008 available I can find at the moment is the IR version which I'm sure is superb but at another 200 quid is more than I want to pay for night vision.
Any tips and or advice would be gratefully received.

Re: Night shooting
Someone (my apologies, I can't remember who) sent me one to try.
Don't bother with it
Far and away the worst NV scope I've ever had the misfortune to use.
Cheers

Re: Night shooting
Thanks Bruce,
I kind of guessed that would be the case. I think I am going to get the 007 which I can switch to both guns for now but I would like to know why you went from the 007 to two 008's. You are obviously the bloke to ask for a direct and honest answer.
Thanks again

Re: Night shooting
The 007 is a great add-on, no argument about that, and I used it with a scope that worked well with it.
However it was still an add-on and I could never mount the rifle in the way I could with a normal glass scope.
I tried various butt extenders, but it was never really comfortable to shoot.
However, when the 008 became available and I tried it, I found that the daytime image was good enough that it could replace a glass scope.
That meant I had a single small, light weight device that allowed me to mount the rifle in exactly the same way as I would with a glass scope and which would work well enough during the day and very well indeed at night.
So, for me, it provided the solution to a problem I'd had since I got into night vision - i.e do I use an add-on fitted to a rifle that is principally used for daytime shooting or put a dedicated NV scope onto a rifle and then only have it available for use at night.
With an 008, a single device does both, and with the LRF version, accuracy when shooting loopy trajectory bullets at night (when range estimation is notoriously difficult) is much improved.
I'm not saying what I found to be best for me will be the best for you, but do take some time to think through all the options.
Cheers

Re: Night shooting
Thanks again Bruce, taken on board.
If the 008 became available tomorrow I would go for it. I'm just getting impatient and really am old enough to know better. By the by I have got a lot of info from your reviews with Russ. So many thanks to both of you.
