heya,
have a look here at the data sheet:
http://www.drmair.at/images/stories/vir ... eitung.pdf
they say the n455 does have a LED 940 ...so it is LED
the n450 does have 850 LED

I forgot - since it is a HD CMOS you should get much more light with a vcsel ... vcsel = 10x more than LED

The Digex uses a 940nm LED illuminator.
It can be used with a vcsel based IR illuminator but it needs to have fully variable power control to prevent the sensor from being overloaded.
You will probably get a little more range but the overall resolution of the scope is not great (big pixels and smallish lens) so targets at extended ranges will not be seen in great detail
I had one on loan for a couple of weeks and ran some side by side tests with a PARD 008 and for me PARD was less fussy about IR and produced a better image than the Digex
In this video, from 13 minutes on, there is a side by side comparison of an Digex and a PARD with both 850nm and 940nm
