As a mobility scooter user there is no licence required but it is recommended that you have some public liability insurance, there is also a registration scheme for scooters that are capable of 8 mph and can be used on the road. If It is fitted with lights and indicators then it should be n the road , if not it can be used on the pavement.

Ta, so there's no requirement to have any form of registration for footpath use then, just recommend insurance.
I can't find anything that states you have to be disabled to use one, in fact some sites are saying they're catching on with kids / youths as a form of transport

Now then, this bike engine we have on a shelf, I suppose that would be deemed illegal

Looks like it can only be an electric motor, rated at no more than 300 watts, or else it then falls under 'moped' and has to be registered.

We shall just stick with what it comes with to be honest. One's just gone on ebay for £46 but I didn't fancy the drive to Cambridge to be honest. The older I get the less I want to drive any distance, it bores me stiff.

One will turn up relatively local in time, and I'm in no rush, it's not me walking

We send one of the lads who works for us up to the local supermarket to buy water (can't drink the water in the factory). He hasn't got a driving license so has to walk or go on a bike. Thought about getting one of these and sending him on it so he can carry more water

A sort of paupers company van
Here in the US of A we thoroughly field test the structural integrity of ever mobility scooter manufactured.

I'd say that a scooter will carry what ever the lad can strap to it.

Huh, it's there now  That's some load, we use trucks over here to carry stuff that heavy

There's talk on some sites / forums about fat folk getting fatter through using these scooters, a bit of a viscous circle. They have trouble walking 'cause they're fat so they use a scooter, that makes them fatter so they walk even less.

What they should do is stop their benefits and pay them by the hour to go to the gym, the more they go the more they earn.
