Hey Guys,
Thanks for all the info and the time.....
I will check into the cosmicar 75mm lens... Thank you Toni..
I will be shooting hogs out to the 100 to 200 yard range mostly. Any thing else will be closer in. I have Gen 1 night vision now but this looks so much better and a whole lot cheaper...

Welcome to the darkside!
Sounds like you will have a very good setup, please post a picture of your setup and roland's adapter when you get your lens assembled.
Any of the older c mount Japanese lenses are better than the new chopstick ones. In addition to the cosmicar, other names like tamaron, fujinon, pentax are very good also.

Thanks for the info..
I Hope it will be a nice set up when I am finished, but it will be like all my other projects I will probably always be trying to make it better and spending a ton of money on it... But that's the Joy of DIY right? It has already started.... I am building the Rolaids 3.1 Version But I really like the clean look of Dave's and Toni's set-up..... Where will it end!!!!
I will Load pics of roland's Custom camera body as soon as I get it.
I will also take pics as I do my build and load them as well.

Roland has a hybrid "RSB" (Roland Some Bloke) rig that he might be persuaded to part with. That is his front end with my back end attached via a customised coupling. Seen at the very end of this clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAvQ_lzbn9A

Another Question:

What are Aspherical lenses and do they work for nv applications?

Aspherical lenses are "not spherical" lenses. i.e their surfaces are not the exact shape of a sphere.
Most camera lenses are spherical, and because spherical lenses are very common, the word spherical tends to get dropped from their description
Our main use for aspheric lenses is as the focussing element in illuminators.
Putting a single LED at the focal point of an aspheric lens results in a concentrated parallel beam of light coming out of the lens.
By adjusting the position of the lens relative to the LED, the beam shape can be varied from flood to spot.
When the LED is putting out infra red at 850nm it provides a means of illuminating a target with enough infra red that the light reflected from the target is sufficiently strong for the camera to detect it and produce a usable image of the target.

Hey Bruce,
OK, I understand about the aspherical lenses on the IR, Basically it magnifies the light, But I have been searching for 75 to 85mm camera lenses and have seen several that say they are aspherical lenses and the glass that I can see does look rounded as it does on the ir magnifiers, What would be their purpose and would they work for the nv lens?

Forgive my Ignorance on this subject.....

Tony
