If you want to change a gun even for one of the same calibre you cant just go to the shop and come home with a new one (unless you have a free "slot" for the relevant calibre) you need to sell /trade gun number 1 , send proof of sale and your fac off to the licencing dept who will then return your fac with an authority to purchase added so you can go and collect gun number 2CrocodileDundee wrote:Ok. so lets see if I have this right.
You get your approval which will include whatever firearms you list and can justify a need. But your able to trade sell and buy along the way without further paperwork or costs as long as they stay the same cals?
But you also need approval for ammo. Which is the max number you will have for any given cal you own or have an approval for??
Air guns uner 12ftlb are GTG without hastle.
And you pay way too more for everything in comparison to here and we pay way more than the US?

Re: UK Firearms Regulations
I'm not sure if it costs more or less than in Australia, but I sussepect it depends on what you shoot and whether you want a tool or a work of art. You can get a shotgun and firearm cert together for £75 (I think) which works out as £15 a year, and buy a old sxs 12 bore for £50 and a .22 lr for £100, both of which are fairly cheap to feed. Or you could spend thousands on a top shooty and larger calibre rifle, it's horses for courses really.
When I got my SGC I paid £50 for the cert, £25 for the gun cabinet and got a 16 g shotgun free and 200 carts chucked in for nothing.

if you transfer or sell a firearm, you need to inform the police of the transaction asap. these transfers need to be done face to face, to ensure the person you're selling/giving it to, has a slot on their ticket for said firearm. you don't need to send your ticket back to be changed, its done when you next renew it.
if you want to add another rifles or extra ammo to your ticket (variation) then you need to pay a fee for doing so. (unless its one for one..ie same calibre)
But you also need approval for ammo. Which is the max number you will have for any given cal you own or have an approval for??
not sure what the maximum allowance is, as long as you can show 'good reason' then you usually get what you want
personally I have slots for all my centrefire as, buy 500 hold 600 and buy 900 hold 1000 for the .22 rimfire
cheers jock

Re: UK Firearms Regulations
Seems there are some similarities but plenty of differences as well. Bit hard as every state or territory here has different regs but they are similar.
under 12 ftlb air rifles here need to be licensed, there they do not.
anyone with a license of any sort can buy ammo of any sort in most states here. No limit on ammo I can have but over 10,000 rounds I need a sticker on my ammo locker.
We don't have empty slots or prior approval for anything. Basically sell as we like but the purchaser needs to send off each time for approval. If I sold a 223 privately I'd need to reapply for a 223 again to replace it. If I took it to a dealer I could just trade/upgrade tho in my state This part is new and a sensible change for registry efficiency and reducing costs for shooters which is good.
Seems you are paying a fair bit more. Tikkas here are $1000-$1400 I think. Howa $700. And ammo you are paying a fair bit more. I reload but can buy 243 ammo for a bit over $1 a shot and up. 17hmr $160/500, 223 from 60/100 for the cheap stuff, $80/100 for average hunting ammo.
How much do you pay for reloading supplies? say a 100 primers, and a 1kg tub of rifle powder?
Is the hunting side of it regulated there? Like seasons for game? Minimum calibres? Anything you can't spotlight or hunt in a particular way? is trapping allowed?
