I agree with Bruce there. Windows 7 is solid for me. The transition from the good old XP to 7 was smooth, all my programs are still working under 7 and the nice thing is that it can make use of more memory than XP, which is great for demanding applications such as video/image editing and music recording applications (DAW). The thing that pisses me off is the constant updates, every couple of days, and the fact that if I leave the computer unattended for a while, with an open application (work in progress), I come back to it just to find that Microsoft has decided to automatically download and install the critical update, loosing my unsaved work in the process.

Since having tried an iPad, I promised to myself to replace the PC with a Mac, when that time comes.

Thanks for the info gents, I'll see what's about with 7. As you say, 8 will fry my brain. If there's one thing I can't stand it's unnecessary frills and junk just for the sake of it.

Apple are quite polite (laid back?) when it comes to system updates... they ask you if you'd like to do it now or later and don't just rush in and cock everything up for hours. I don't miss M'soft at all.... or Norton..... they're pretty good at telling you the same thing virtually every day.

Nikon users have the reputation of being "weird", and also dressing in jesus creepers and hippy clothing
