The faster the frame rate the smoother the movement of moving objects will appear (or stationary objects moving across the screen when you scan the thermal around)
25 frames per second is usually regarded as the minimum for your eye and brain to think that movement is continuous.
The Guide refreshes at 50 frames/sec so it has no problem with movement.
I don't think it's possible to change the frame rate and I suggest you simply leave the Guide in Auto and let it sort out the best settings for any specific situation
Most of the FLIR thermal are limited to 9 frames/sec which is OK if everything in the field of view is static, but any movements within the field of view definitely appear very jerky.

It's definitely adjustable because at the moment it's set on 15. When I scan whilst recording video there is a delay as I swing around. I adjusted the frame rate up to 25 but couldn't see anything happening which was obvious really with your reply as I kept the Guide pointing in the same place whilst I adjusted it. The problem was I couldn't remember where I started from when I kept messing with settings trying to get a better pic. I haven't noticed any lag when scanning, only when recording

interesting, I'll have another play later.
Thanks Bruce

Bruce and I have spoken about this before. In the first few days after getting the Guide, I played with varying the settings.
After realising that I couldn't get any more out of the unit than I could with it set on auto, I simply left it there. Two years later, it's still on auto.
I have the eyepiece sensor set so that my screen is permanently on and I get either side of two hours use from a set of batteries, depending on how cold or warm it is outside.

The batteries are a 'funny' one for me. The annsmann that came with it last the least amount of time

My Duracell rechargeables from 1600 BC last ages

My energiser rechargeables are also unimpressive, dying off before they should. I've ordered a few more bundles so they are all the same mAh and also from the modern era as I'm not sure how good it is mixing up the different mAh batteries by mistake. I leave it switched on too, I tried the standby but even when it's in a bino pack it still thinks it's against my eye and stays on. Then when I scan with my left eye the thing switches off to stand by at the wrong time so the stand by setting is off on mine too.
I found the eye piece too bright when there's no contrast in the image, I changed the colour palletes which definitely helped but then 'thought' I was struggling to detect the heat sources further away. It's definitely a game changer and a keeper but they also have their faults and limitations like everything else.

As I've said before, you are welcome anytime. Just give me a bell once you know what you are doing for definite
At least we won't have to wait until midnight for it to get dark this time either

My mistake re frame rate. I assumed it was the same as the screen refresh rate which is fixed at 50Hz.
It seems likely that the frame rate is for the video storage function. A lower frame rate will allow longer videos to be stored on the SD card.
Obvioulsy, those videos will be lower quality than videos recorded at higher frame rates. 25 frames per second is normally regarded as standard.

As I don't have the EC model, I simply use white hot 95% of the time.
I use nothing else but Ansmann 2850mAh. I've four sets that I rotate. I've found that I get greater life from them since using my Nitecore i4 charger than I did with the supplied Ansmann charger.
I try not to charge the batteries and leave them standing for days before use, as they certainly do drain.

In all honesty George, I think the charger is my problem as the ansmann batteries don't even show as 100% in the guide even when I leave them in the charger on green for hours after fully charged. Only last night I charged them in my other charger so I'll know if it's the charger. The ansmann's supplied with the unit were only the 2700mAh jobbies but I've got the 2850 on order.
Bruce, I think you're right with the frame thing setting. The video was jumpy when I recorded it but it just looked smooth on playback, if it doesn't take forever to upload I'll post how bad the contrast is..

I can't get my video's to upload to photobucket, it just states video failed. I tried two separate video's, anyone know why
Here's some sheep pics which uploaded straight away. With the sheep in the pic the contrast looks ok but if you take them out the image was just a white wash between the grass and the trees. These were my better pics but the vids really showed how the rain sort of made everything the same colour. First ones white hot obviously..
And now for some suffolks

I wouldn't trust the battery indicator displayed on the screen of the Guide to tell you very much about the state of charge of a set of NiMH batteries.
Remember NiMH batteries are only 1.2 volts each so a set of 4 when full charged barely makes 5 volts.
Normal duracells are at least 1.5 volts fully charged so a set of 4 new alkaline batteries will make around 6.2-6.3 volts.
Try a set of fresh Duracells and see what the battery indicator shows compared to a set of fully charged NIMH batteries.
Cheeers
