I have just read in this year's edition of the "Hunting & Trapping in Virginia" publication that it is legal to hunt Bobcat, foxes, raccons and opossums day or night during authorized season. Furthermore it is legal to take nuisance species (rats and mice) day or night. That being said, some localities limit the use of any type of firearm. For instance, in Suffolk county: "It shall be unlawful to discharge a firearm or air gun of .177 caliber or larger within any densely populated area: within 200 yards from any structure or within 100 yards from any public street, secondary road, or highway within the city, except on a permitted firing range or at or upon the property of another without permission."

I'm sure you'll be able to work within those regulations and still manage to get out after them.

Seems you got too vague bullshit over there too: How densly populated - and what about your own house or barn?

Marky, I see that you live in Suffolk England. Our Suffolk County is about a hundred miles east of where I live. There is very little agriculture left with all of the urban spraw . I guess that is why the law is worded that way.

I am part of a "Hunt Club" here in Virginia. A group of us have come together and pooled our money and we lease land to hunt on. I think it amounts to seven hundred acres divided into two tracts. One of the two has just been "clear cut". Most of the trees have been cut down. Half was clear cut last fall. The other half was cut this fall. This is bad news for those of us that hunt deer and turkey. It could be a great place to hunt Coyote, Fox, and Bobcat. I am told that there are Coyote on parts of the property, but they favor nocturnal hunting. I need to learn more about night hunting!

Some bloke, the wording is very vague. I'm not a lawyer, but I think that it was worded this way to make things just a little more difficult for people to hunt in these localities. Suffolk was more scarcely populated when I was young. Now you can not "swing a cat" without hitting your next door neighbor!
