Axes, what do you know about them ?

So, thinking of getting a relatively light hand axe for occasional use clearing branches etc in a wood. I would be looking for one that takes and holds a very good edge and well balanced. Would I be better buying an old one off ebay in the assumption old Sheffield or Swedish steel was good? Or do I look at a modern one ?
What's about, and, how much ?

Assuming you don't mind tidying up the edge have a look at hultafors or husqvarna branded axes. Mostly produced by hults bruk and re-branded
The finish is a little rough but decent steel and hafts....all on ebay mate

Right then, had a quick look and the hultafors are about twice the price of the Husqvarna, what's the difference? If the steel is the same and it's just rough edges or poorer finish on the Husky then I'm not too bothered, however, if the steel on the Hultafor's is a better quality then I'll go for one of those.
Is there anywhere that actually lists the steel spec?

Go for the husky mate, odds are they came off the production line at the same time but the hultafors got an extra 10 minutes of 'finishing' time
I'v got a husky branded small splitting axe that i re-ground to use on my falling belt and its fine mate

Right, ordered a Husky and should be here mid week. Now, about this tidying up, I need to (A) know what to do (just clean it up, file / grind flattish?), and (B) see a pic of yours. Then I'll post a pic of mine and we can have Axe porn

Which one did you get?. it will be usable when you get it, its just the grinds will probably be a little uneven and not the sharpest thing you've ever seen
You can just work it with files, or 2 minutes on a belt sander

Pic of mine? Well i'v got a dozen or so axes so i'll gather a few tomorrow
