I know none of you folks know him or will ever meet him, but a trap shooting friend of mine, Allan Peeters from Sasolburg, in the Free State South Africa, was badly injured last weekend while fishing in Komatipoort Dam in north eastern South Africa. While reaching into the water to retrieve a fish he had on the line, a crocodile grabbed his left arm and dragged him under the water. His injuries are quite extensive. He is currently in hospital and has had to have his left arm amputated. He has extensive damage to his right arm and one leg.
He is the fellow on the far left.
This is the same guy who, while shooting doubles at a competition near Ixopo (middle of nowhere in Kwa Zulu-Natal province) stood dead still as a Black Mamba snake (extremely venomous) came out of the trap house and towards the trap line, and slithered over his boots and off into the weeds.
Africa is truly not for sissies.
He's a farmer in the Free State, a really nice guy and a darned good shooter. The photo is from the 2014 Gauteng North Standard Competition where the 5 of us pictured tied for high gun.
Some very dangerous creatures in Africa.
