Do you guys have access to Military Surplus stuff over there?

I'm looking for a specific English sleeping bag, I haven't seen on the US market in some time.

I assume then you want something rain proof.....
I once had a man try and sell me some snow tyres made in Brazil.

If you can find a CDN army bag its a three season kit that will work in extreme cold and you can shed layer as the weather warms up.
I used one back in 90s when I was working in the far north.
Next to that I have an old T Eaton co one piece I use in warmer months and still use.
Cotton and polyester ( made in PQ in the 70s ) breaths well I find.

I learned a trick from an old timer one year cutting a road in near north where the flies were bad and weather unpredictable.
He wore a Yellow Dupont tyvek type suit to provide some warmth and protection from insect bites ( sort a yellow boiler suit )
His argument was it was cleaner that the cots we were hot bunking in and if you ended up lost it made it easier to find you ( so keep one behind the seat as a sort of survival suit for extra warmth, rain ect )

What bag are you after? Cant think of any that are especially brilliant exept the arctic bag which is good because its cheap

During the early 2000's, US surplus catalogs carried 4 variants of what what described as a "British Commando Sleeping Bag". There were 2 sizes available in warm weather, 2 sizes available in down filled cold weather. I seem to remember all of them being mummy style sacks, with a rubber bottom, and stake loops to stake down if you were to sleep on a hill. I am specifically looking for the larger of the two, down/cold weather sacks, AND the separate mesh liner.

The arctic sleeping bags used in the UK forces over the last say 8 years are ok for British winters but not for the arctic, trust me on this one. Buy something along the lines of a good Mammut mummy bag and you will have toasty nights ahead of you. Coupled with a wind/waterproof bivvy bag you will be as snug as a bug.

Anything fit your description on here, type 58 maybe ?

Not into sleeping bags, but just had a quick look.

Trouble with down is if it gets wet, it's all over then. The old down ones were warm, too warm for uk, but a pain in the neck to clean or dry out.

Sounds like you want a 58 pattern bag then.

Tbh though mate as far as outdoor gear goes you live in the land of milk and honey. You'll find better at your local REI shop

Rodders, down is fine mate, Its all i use. In civvy land its not difficult to keep a bag dry and even if it does go tits up it takes a hell of a lot to wet out a modern bag

Adam, is it down you use, or the modern hollow fibre equivalent still called down. I know a mate of mine had one of the ex military down filled ones (58 pat ?) and when he got that wet it was useless for a week, he had to buy another on site.

Thought that this thread would have produced some "humour ?"
