I hope none of you boys got hit by the fire. It's all over the news, over here.
I'm sure we have very different building codes. How does something of this magnitude happen? Are sprinklers utilized?

unfortunately this block of flats was built in 1974, long before it became compulsary to have spinklers installed during construction.
they had just completed a £9 million refit, but this was just double glasing and new cladding, and upgrading the central heating.
pity the powers that be hadn't insisted on better fire alarms and a sprinkler system, maybe this wouldn't have been as catastophic

Fire started with an explosion, in a Muslim area, during Bombadan. I'm not buying the 'an appliance exploded' story.
The rapid spread was up the outside of the building, basically the cladding became a roman candle. I am willing to bet the cladding was from China with false fire rating certificates and it wasn't tested in the UK before installation.
An Australian tower has that problem with owners, builders and insurers dickering about who pays for replacement.
