hi all, i am wondering which is the best general all round shooting insurance ,i know a lot shout basc but from personal experience i will never use or reccomend them again ,for the last 3 years i have used country cover insurance as on my gun forum we get a very good deal (around £15 ) i wonder if any member here has had a claim against country cover or any other insurance firm to see if they do actually pay out , im a little sceptical of CC as they take your money then you print out your own forms, probably all ok but ??? lets see which is best .cheers pete

Good question
I have done a lot of Stalking on private ground, I did not need insurance cover. Owners all knew me personally and had no stipulation for any type of cover. I have been invited to join a Red Deer Syndicate up North on 2700 acres.

It is at a price that I can not say no to. I now will have to have cover in order to join.

I personally would not give BASC one brown penny. BASC is for BASC, They need plenty money to keep the big lard ar§§ed executives in fuel money for their big Jaguars. I came out of the British Deer Society about 10 years ago, they went down the same route as BASC.

I hear good things about the Scottish Game Keepers associations cover.

Will be interested to hear others views.

I'm with the NGO (National Gamekeepers Association).

Never had to claim, thankfully, but it seems good enough and competitive too.

I've been with the NGO now for several years after getting fed up with the cost of BASC and the Countryside Alliance subscriptions.

And you get a decent cup of tea at the Gamefairs!!

I've also been with the BDS for many years and really have only have stuck with them as they actually do useful things with the money relevant to deer and their welfare. Just wish I'd taken a Life Membership out then... too expensive at the time but it would've turned out to be cheap this far down the line. Hey ho.

I'm with Basc. Because I do a bit of everything I need coverage for everything. And dispite peoples opinions of them, and yes I do thing they are a bit hooray henryish, they do actually do an awful lot of work in the background. Having spent a lot of time in motorcycle politics over the years I do know what it entails and the sort of people you need. Therefore I am happy to pay until such a stage that I see someone else who can fight as much for shooters rights.

hi gloop & yes i was with basc for years but the moment i needed them it was a no go ,im sure you must have heard of stories they never seem to come up with the goods when needed ,have you ever needed their help ? did they ever help you ? or are you one of thousands who pay every year thinking they are allways in the background looking out for your rights & welfare ? i really hope they look after you ,but im afraid most people i talk too think they are a disgrace ,im not being personal with you far from its just i havent heard anything positive about them. insurance with any company is a dodgy thing ,cheers pete ,

Well said Sir. Glad to know I am not the only one that thinks the same of the BASC.

I have heard stories as well about them. In fact I know of someone that had them representing them in court. They were amateurs and in my opinnion did not help a shooting man in need. He lost his rifles. I think you will find that all the insurance cover for shooters will probably have zero claims against them.
It is a license to print money. Make a claim and they will probably quote you the small print that voids your claim.

Check out the wages the people that are working for BASC and the BDS. The BDS is a registered charity. once all the staff get there whack there may be a few hundred quid to give to some charity.
