Just saw a post from snypercat saying NS lost a high court battle with another NV maker selling a similar product that allows the person to sell his kit.
Can someone confirm if this is true? i do hope so, not for the person involved but means the prices will come down when the market gets flooded. :D

Edited to say: no more nite site patent!!!!!!!!!!! looks like they were 10 years too late.

nothing like having your cornflakes p*ssed on to start the weekend :D

If this is true. Then justice has been served. There Bully boy tactics never paid off. Hats of the guy for standing up to them.

Hats off to them for being the first UK supplier to the trade of a professionally moulded modular digital night vision device though, which includes the IR illuminator in the cost. By supplying the trade they had to present and price a professionally packaged item accordingly, in numbers that have to be documented. That allows others to make them on a direct/mates basis for something like £150 cheaper. I think the competition all use a ready made viewing screen/dvr - that is they didn't have to make an investment in one - and is an IR illuminator included in the rivals price?

Although NS got a bit too big for their boots by trying too hard to protect their necessary RRP I hope they survive. Perhaps they could shave the price a tad by selling the components in a bag rather than the sort of package we expect for something bought in a shop with the usual small discount for regular customers. I hope they have sold a good few of them by now across the world.

I think the title of the thread is wrong - Nitesite have not had their patent revoked.
What's happened is that NiteSite have taken Nitehunter to court saying he has infringed their patent and the judge has said that, in this particular csae, Nitehunter has not infringed NiteSite's patent.
However, I think the judgement means that Nitesite are going to have a very hard job winning cases if they try to take other people to court who have similar products.
Given how recently NiteSite were awarded their patent and how soon after that they're in court with Nitehunter, I just wonder if the whole idea behind NiteSite getting the patent in the first place was just to try to kill off Nitehunter, if so the plan just blew up in their face.

Cheers

Totally agree with you, Bruce.

It would be good to actually hear the wording of the legal decision too. Just wondering if there are any caveats, or if it's clear cut.

I agree Pesca.

Should not be long to we get the low down. Probably when Nighthunter sobers up

As for the patent that was granted. I think the patent office researchers were lacking in their job and did not dig very deep. So lets hope people like Nighthunter are not forced in to getting a patent and the noose tightens for all us dabblers that are striving to improve whats out there for those that can not afford the mega thousands for Gen 3 or 4 Night Vision gear.

Be good if NiteSite could come on and explain what's happening, I doubt it though. You have to give it to them, as has been said they got a system up and running and on the market. It's just a pity that what appears to be greed got in the way and they tried to stamp on everyone else. Had they just got on and produced a well made and working system in an open market they would have been well respected in the nv fraternity, instead they've become a company that you wouldn't p**s on if they were on fire. Sad really.

Found this on another site, if it's true then the courts should revoke ns patent. I assume the prior patents were shown to the court.
thanks mate i dont know wot they were thinking we found patents dating back to 1991 thank to the lads for finding them for us

They would have been better off spending the money they have wasted on patients and solicitors by improving the product they sell. Then sell it at a more reasonable price and that would have killed the competition off.

Greed thats all it is.

I'm looking forward to shaking NH's hand at Stoneleigh tomorrow and sticking up two fingers to NS
