Done quite a few in the past.
Evostick external waterproof wood glue evenly spread on the veneers, and then the whole blank putting in either a vacuum press, or make a press from aluminium/steel plates and lots of g clamps.
Link for glue

I never tried coloured veneers, just used ash, walnut and various others.
Worked very well and gave pleasing results

When I tried to find out I was told everything from a pritt stick to some old fashioned boat glue they built the ark with  I couldn't find a definitive answer as to what proprietary blanks use, and it's a big thing to get wrong.
Can't get the laminates now so it sort of doesn't matter anymore  As a matter of interest I was going to use full solvent printing inks applied in a vacuum bag for colour, that stuff soaks into anything and isn't water soluble.

As above evo stick external, the key is a nice even covering of glue then a strong press that again must be a uniform pressure.
