i use an old yukon ranger strap, the posh neoprene one
overhead style so the unit sits to one side. that way it don't swing back and forth as you walk and sits under me coat quite nicely in bad weather

I use the one that came with the guide, em pulsars, bloody cheap rubbish with no strap
Perhaps a camcorder or camera strap would do the job? That's what I use on one of my nv monos. On my other I use one of those straps that holds those name cards around your neck. It's got two quick release G clip type things either end so it's quick to take off and small in my pocket if I want to use the mono as an add on. Anything does the job for me but personally I prefer a bino pack to slip them into..

I use an old puppy lead its one of those thin flat strap type. I have a short bolt to the correct thread with a nut and a repair washer and one of those key ring loop things.
Basically the washer has a hole drilled in it, just big enough to get the key ring loop fastened to it, then the bolt is fed through the hole and a plain but is run up to the underside of the washer. The bolt is then screwed in to the threaded hole on the left side of the TI until it bottoms out, then the nut is gently wound back locking onto the body of the TI securing it in place.
The lead has been attached to the key ring loop by the handle end and the bottom end, then a knot has been tied to shorten the strap to the correct length for it sitting comfortably round my kneck.
All in all the total cost was about 2 quid plus the lead that was hanging there doing nothing.
Cheap n cheerful but works a treat. Possibly not the best solution but it works for me as it allows me to have the TI around my neck and tuck it under my jacket if it pees it down.
I'll add a picture or link to a pic once I get the chance.

Having tried a few options I ended up with a harness under my coat. I know you don't want a harness but it works so well. I usually walk around with my coat 1/2 zipped. It doesn't bounce around because it is held tight to the body by the elastic harness and can be stuffed away for climbing gates etc.
I just couldn't get on with a strap. Swung everywhere and I use the thermal so much of the time.

For a 38s, my chest or breast pocket. Hate stuff sloshing about.

As per George, I like to shove mine into the chest bino pocket on the Rivers West smock but I bought these in case I missed it in a rush to get out and chase foxes around the countryside...

And one of these.......

But he's now not showing any for sale....

Might be worth sending him a message, or just do a search for "paracord lanyard" - just tried and several options come up.
I also bought a couple of the large neoprene lens cases from 7dayshop for the 14 and the 38S - easier to slip into a pocket than the supplied case...... Billy Bargain! They're on offer.
