Archer or PVS14

Post by alex42 » 11 Apr 2020, 18:21

Hi folks
Are there any good deals on Archers or PVS14's at the moment? Also, I've heard there's a comparable Flir add on, does anyone have more info on if that's the case in their experience
Thanks chaps!

The FLIR addon you mention is vey good, the MNVD HD unit in particular is definitely worth a look. The PVS will still have the edge, especially when used passively, but on the back of a scope with IR you won’t shoot any further with a PVS. Very clear picture, good DSA and mounting system with the added bonus it’s 308 rated.

I’ve tried an Archer, although it was a while ago. It worked ok but was let down by the mounting system. Manufacturers backup and after sales service appears very poor from reading this forum.

Any decent tubed NV is expensive so not sure about getting a deal.

Thanks Blaser
The Archer seems great but the company that sells them gets such awful reviews. I tried to buy one 2 years ago, promised delivery the following week. Over 2 months later I requested a refund. So that's them kinda ruled out.
The PVS14 seems amazing, But!, they don't come with warranty and the quality seems to vary, it's knowing who to trust. It's a whole heap of cash to part with if it's not right and who would repair it later?
The Flir sound great too but can't seem to find a uk retailer.
I used to have as drone pro but found it suffered occasional loss of zero and it didn't suit being in the landy or gator all day

I understand Starlight may be in difficulties, as such an Archer may not be a wise choice assuming it is still possible to buy one new.

The Pvs14 is probably as good as it gets for tubed nv that is available at reasonable cost although it can be difficult to track one down. As you say, no warranty and risk involved. There are new equivalent Pvs units supplied by optical solutions and a few others, but for a good spec unit it’s v big bucks.

Scott Country were importing the FLIR units although I think they may have stopped now. Definitely worth a look if you can find one.

A grade A Archer has just come up for sale on the SD site. From the pictures it looks to be in top condition.
