SB spotter *SOLD*

Post by some bloke » 08 Oct 2014, 09:43

I forgot who asked me for one.

Another E700 spotter with a second user 50mm SLR lens. It runs on two 18650 batteries - not supplied. It has a 5" LCD monitor.

You have a choice of solid handle, a tripod that doubles up as a handle or a suction pad mount that fits to smooth surfaces such as a car roof, windscreen - or door window. If you have electric mirrors you get to use it with a limited amount of pan and tilt. :D

£280 posted RMSD.

If you require an IR illuminator you can choose any of the ones in my signature photo with a weaver rail torch mount at £40.

The suction cup thingy sticks to smooth surfaces:

I assess this type of rig by how well it sees without artificial illumination.

These two videos are a fair appraisal of how you can expect it to perform. The image seen on the small monitor is many times clearer than the compressed and uploaded to youtube video that you see, you will get a slightly better idea if you minimise your page to about half screen to get a smaller player:

The first is approaching the worst ambient light conditions you are likely to find where it will still see something at air rifle range without assistance. If there is even less light you will see nothing at all without an illuminator.

This compares to about the very best you will see from it in patchy cloud and good light conditions:

I think I'm going to have to explain that somebody else does a very good job of clearing foxes from my main shooting patch - thus I very rarely see one. So - a lot further than rabbits. :P I do not have - nor will ever likely need an nm800.

This is a copy and paste from somewhere else that you asked how far:

"How far can you spot foxes with this?"

How long is a piece of string?

I say that because there are all sorts of differing conditions that will get you variable results:

Moon, no moon, ambient light, no ambient light, light pollution reflected from white cloud, dust, fog, long grass, short grass, brown soil, hedging etc.

The last rabbit seen in the following video was on a mown golf course at pre-dawn before birdsong - and fog had become quite noticeable. It was over 200 yards away. I hadn't focused the camera to that range as I emerged from the entrance around some trees.

When I subsequently tried the IR it reflected off the fog rendering it unusable beyond maybe 60 yards.
