Ah that's better word power thanks big un.andybig wrote:So if you dont remove some length from the lens holder, it does not allow the whole image and the extra light from the large lens to hit the CCD sensor.
In effect the original height of lens holder causes a reduction in the light transfer. Almost like its casting a shadow?
I bet that little bit makes a massive difference.

Well worth it !!!
Waited for a fox, no show got off a tower making a lot of noise had enough going home, thought one last look round and yep there he was 75 yards away looking straight at us laughing!
Well not for long my mate loaded his rifle worked out where the fox was looking at the spotter screen then on went the light no time to blink.
Funny wind was straight in it's face from us, but watching it though the spotter more interested in in mice or something on the ground.
Spotter gets a 10/10 great even with a e700 clone I was testing it with.

Re: M42/E700 adaptors.
It's becoming appararent that many of you are using can I say trendy general purpose tripods with very short attachment threads on them that were probably designed for use with compact cameras and camcorders. Our NV spotters are likely to take an occasional knock because of their bulk and how we use them out of a truck.
Please note these M42 adaptors are made of lightweight Delrin rather than heavier aluminium or brass and they are supplied with blind M4 tapped holes to allow a weaver base to be fitted to them. They were not designed to be used with trendy tripods with extremely short stubby threads. If they were I would have made a recomendation to that effect.
Please look again at my 'M42 lens adaptor and fitting instruction' thread. Please also look at my umpteen photos and videos of spotters - with solid handles and long tripod thread attachment studs:
These examples have much longer threads than some of the camera tripods being used.
