Don't twist it ....
warm it up, then push with thumbs behind the hinge, then, opposit side..
It only moves a fraction each go 1st of all but it will soon come off

Hi all again,

Just been talking the lovely people at Scott country and they said do not remove the front optical cover of your XT, as this forms weather seal for the unit.
And in doing so will invalidate your warranty!!!
However they did say you can twist the sleeve if you need to reposition the flip up cover, as this may obscure any additional IR illumination.
So I’m putting the wife’s hair dryer away for the meantime.

Cheers Will

There`s no way to tell if you have removed the cover as there is no seal to break :?

If It wasn't meant to come off It would have been built as a single piece

I`m also sure that removing the iris out the cap would void the warranty, but plenty of folk have done that as well.

Ok,
So... How can you twist the sleeve ?!
The sleeve, is the cover ... If you want to reposition it, you have to take it off !

I think there is a slight miss communication ...
They may be talking about the black threaded ring inside .. This is to protect what is left of the thread after the ring is screwed in ( holding the glass lens ).

The flip up cover is a 1 peace design it pushes on & ( with some help ) pushes off..
It certainly does not have a rotating ring for the hinge, & I definitely would avoid twisting it !!!!

Ok, you are right the flip up cover is a one peace design, and is a push fit, and with a bit of elbow grease/hairdryer pull off.
However when you flip the lens cover to its open position this may obscure the beam from the IR torch that you have attached to the scope.
And therefore you made need to rotate the flip up cover to expose the beam from your IR torch.
I guess there market for the lens doublers will take a bit of hit?

Cheers Will
