LOL, you already have more than enough torch for a rapid my friend - and you can swap out the modules as needed to use for lamping/picking up too.wiseoldowl wrote:i have an account with DX so i orered a few lens plus another 501 i have the red 501b also but it has flat screen on it maybe better to change that too ,whats the best within reasonable price red torch to fit to my fac rapid ? t20 ? cheers

Hope I don't step on Daves toes here.
The red Cre Q5 501Bs from DX are good quality, I have two.

They have better build quality than the black body white LED torches and empty black donor bodies I have received from DX.
Personally I would rate them as good for 20 meters or so. Note I have not tried them behind a scope, just in hand. I have mounted one on my .22lr that is sighted in for 25 meters with subsonics, haven't had a chance to play with it yet.
Used as a donor host with a red cree XPE & A Horton lens it will, from all reports, be a laser beam. Ash Horton is an Aussie flashlight nut who has the aspherics manufactured to his own specs. He sells them to torch enthusiasts all over the world. They are a major step up over lowest bidder Chinese lens.
I don't see a point in carry swappable heads, as suggested by Dave, when you can carry two torches. The basic hosts are dirt cheap, I can't buy a decent sixpack of beer for the cost of one delivered.
But:
The T20 with red Cree XPE is good for 150 meters on maximum zoom. and makes a very bright walking around light on flood.
I see the 501B as having three definite uses:
1) Low mounted on a rifle for short range work where an adjustable mount is not needed. Like my .22.
2) As is as a drop in pocket light for walking around without disturbing game.
3) On the Yukon Photon where it will mount to the integral side rail without fouling the scope, unlike the wider torches.
There is a philosophical point here. The Some Bloke faction of the Judean Peoples Front works on the basis of minimum visible light, minimum IR, = no spooked game =stealth hunting, and sees that as the goal.
The Marky610 faction of the Peoples Front of Judea believes in maximum light/IR throw, if the animal is stunned killed and preferably fried by the lamp That saves ammo and ammo is expensive.
If you have the bucks get both and work out which you prefer. I did and like both. I guess that makes me a Splitter.

Haha, no toes stepped on here.
Sounds like your red's from DX are duffers if they are only good for 20 meters though mate.

G'day Dave. I played with them in the city with a lot of light pollution. Also I have pretty poor night vision personally, so that may be a factor. But compared to the T20 conversion they are nothing special, I do find them ideal for looking for the cats while maintaining my night vision.
I'm out on the farm at the moment on a work my arse off holiday, so no bang sticks. Didn't think to dismount the 501B and bring it with me for an out in the sticks test.
