This has an F1.8 prime (fixed mag) 50mm M42 SLR lens - which relates to about 3.5mag if it were a scope. Fixed mag and wide lenses have much better light transmission than CCTV zoom lenses at anything above minimum zoom - which makes them much more useful for ambient light performance that is beneficial for covert spotting. No expense is spared on my standard spotter builds - only the very best E700 camera is used rather than some of the budget clones that seem to use cheaper but similar sounding second or third grade sensors. The long neck of the camera body has the 'some bloke' improvement - it is milled back to ensure all of the nice wide lens rear glass element see's all of the CCD sensor:

It comes with a solid rod handle that can also be guided through a bush in a dummy sunroof perspex plate like this:

Or with the screen re-located inside your shooting truck - this one is fixed with a camera suction mount and has a DVR velcro'd to the side of the custom made battery/monitor pod:

You can expect to see this image quality on a night with decent moon & scattered clouds But with a larger field of view because this was done with a 75mm lens - also F1.4:

And this is the massive help you get from a quality camera equipped spotter when its foggy:

This is how you remove the monitor to change the batteries after three hours constant run time if they are quality 18650 cells:

Price is £250 - no batteries supplied.

I am now also looking at budget camera spotter builds for people who are willing to always focus powerful illuminators into the nocturnal eyes of non light shy quarry, some of which will be watching the illuminator. 8-)

It might be worth noting that there are two centrally aligned holes on the flat base of the M42 thread lens adaptor. One of the M4 tapped threads has been drilled and tapped to a 1/4" tripod thread for the handle or tripod etc.

It would be feasible for a bit of a fiddler who is prepared to fit and shim a rail riser block to adapt this to a subsonic range scopeless rig.
