they will not go that far sir, not many will without a repeater (that's what channel 2 is on these radios) the rest are for local work around about 1 kilometre or a bit more,

if you had the repeater then your looking about 5 to 8 miles depending on the terrain your operating in,

On a tractor mounted rig you probably have a long aerial mounted high up on the vehicle and that will get you much more range than a hand held radio with a stumpy aerial held relatively close to the ground.
Your tractor mounted rig may well be putting out considerably more power than the battery operated hand held.
