Black Sunnrangers and Conversion Parts

Post by cliveward » 08 Dec 2015, 15:25

Hi All,

These are really easy to make yourself, but because members have asked for them and for those who are less 'able' we have a solution...

For those unaware, the 'Black Sunnranger' is the Sunnranger concept (Thanks Sunndog) with a Black Sun IR System pill. So that's a T20 with the aspheric lens removed and the bezel modified to accept a standard 3x42 or 4x50 Yukon lens in it's place.

Essentially it sits nicely between the 50 and 67mm aspheric illuminators but with less bulk and a very nice precise focus mechanism in the Yukon lens.

Complete 3x42 Illuminator £95
Complete 4x50 Illuminator £110
3x42 Conversion kit (Lens and modified Bezel) £53
5x50 Conversion kit (Lens and modified Bezel) £68
Modified Bezel (if you already have the lens) £18

All prices include UK postage and VAT. Let me know what you want and I can send you a PayPal Invoice.

Delivery is looking like a week at the moment.

Cheers

Good work, Clive! I'm currently using your B20 and finding the range good, but am unsure whether the 3x42 or 4x50 would suit my needs better. I use my DP for foxing over some open ground, as well as smaller fields. The other night I was watching a fox 420yds away without too much difficulty, although the brightness of the image was fading at this distance. I don't want something that will be too bright closer in, but do want the range!

Many thanks,

Dom

Same LED, just driven a bit harder so that it produces more light.

Thanks for the clarification, Bruce. So, would a BS502 be worth it over a Suunranger?

I can't say, because I haven't tested the BS2 pill with a yukon lens as used in a Sunnranger.
However, at this time, the BS672 is the brightest illuminator I've ever tested.

Hi All,

Thanks for the interest in these. As my mans cried off sick we'll send the PayPal invoices out on Monday because we won't be able to do anything until then anyway and he'll be a bit behind with other work. :shh:

We did get Bruce to test a Black Sun 2 prototype T20 but the results confirmed that the brass pill and general design were a bit of a bottleneck and we weren't getting the efficiency so it won't be worth making these in T20 format.

Cheers

Hi Dom,

Having not done the side by side comparison, at a guess I would say the order of intensity would be:

3x42 BSR
B502
5x50 BSR

I would look at either the 3x42 BSR or B502 because they will nicely fill the field of view at 10x. The 5x50 might just focus a bit too tightly and that extra feature and power would only be of any use as very silly ranges, so you'd be carrying the extra weight of the larger lens around unnecessarily.

If weight is a factor the 3x42 BSR is 327g and the B502 272g. They both have the same major diameter on the head, but the B502 is about an inch shorter.

The B502 will be as a very rough guess 15% brighter than the 3x42 BSR but have a shorter battery life.

Decisions decisions.

Cheers

Due to weight I've gone for the BS502. My torch collection seems to be growing...
