I had a small leak on the radiator hose of our Pinin last summer - new hose sorted it ok.
Guess what I'd intended to do soon afterwards but forgot?
Antifreeze!
That's one my excuses for not updating the drop-in torch thread yet - too much other stuff to do.

Dunno yet Chris. 'Er indoors just mentioned the heater wern't working - but blissfully kept driving it lol.
My silly damn fault. There was little or no water left and I've put it on tick over with the bonnet down and hoping it will defrost any remainig bits. I managed to get some neat antifreeze in after warming it in the oven for a bit. Just waiting now - small leak near the water pump but that inside the the timing belt cover and runs off that.

I hope you get away lightly Dave.
My lad bought his last car just a winter was setting in and I told him to check the antifreeze, "There's no need" came the reply "The bloke at the garage says it's all done".
He finally managed to let me look under the bonnet only to find crystal clear water in the radiator, that clear it must have just been put in!!!!
Lucky boy.

I have been a very lucky puppy. 
As I suspected - the water pump impellor din't wanna play in the ice!
Water pumps usually have plastic impellors which shear off if the car is started when the engine coolant is frozen. The Mitsubishi impellor is a very substantial steel one. Fortunately for me the enginners who designed the pump were thoughtfull enough to turn a small 8mm dia groove on the inner section of the impellor shaft to provide a shear point next to the impellor!
I'm still amazed how a timing belt can shear an 8mm steel shaft instead of slipping or snapping. Twin overhead cams, 16 valves and all the other bits would have made the car a write off.
I had the timing belt done when I bought the car about four years ago - so it was only a year or so to go before it needed changing anyway. New belt kit and water pump was fitted today for £276. A very lucky escape methinks.
